Description
Join me on a truly authentic walking tour through the historic and gastronomic heart of San Sebastián. Unlike standard agency tours, this experience is hosted by a local independent guide with deep roots in both Basque history and cuisine. Having worked in several of the most prestigious Basque kitchens, I bring an insider’s perspective on local gastronomy. I’m still in contact with my colleagues in the culinary scene, which allows me to share what’s happening behind the scenes and the latest trends in Basque innovation. This is not your typical walking tour. Designed personally by me, a local guide with deep roots in both Basque history and cuisine, this experience takes you on a chronological journey through the evolution of San Sebastián — from its humble origins to the vibrant city it is today. Rather than jumping from one attraction to the next, we’ll follow a carefully designed timeline through the city’s streets, using architecture, landmarks, and hidden corners to tell the complete story of Donostia. It’s a dynamic and engaging way to experience the city, and one you won’t find on any other tour. We’ll begin where it all started: by the harbour, where the original fishing village was born. From there, we’ll walk through the city's transformation into a walled military fortress, and continue into the 19th-century Belle Époque era when San Sebastián became a glamorous summer retreat for royalty and aristocrats. As we move forward through time, we’ll explore the modern identity of the Basque Country, touching on gastronomy, local life, and cultural resilience, all the way to the present day. This is more than a sightseeing tour; it’s an immersive cultural experience. Along the way, you’ll enjoy insider knowledge from someone who has worked in top Basque kitchens, local historical insights you won’t find in guidebooks, a small group size for a more personal and flexible experience, and exclusive stops and hidden corners known only to locals.
Includes
Beyond all the historical and cultural information that only a local guide can provide, we've included this list of recommendations so you can make the most of your time and money in places that are really worth visiting. San Sebastian has a lot to offer in terms of gastronomy, so much so that it can often be a little overwhelming. That's why we've combined traditional restaurants and bars with modern and fusion cuisine, classics and discoveries, and drinks you must try before you leave the Basque Country. All this information will be included in the tour, and this list will be sent to you once the tour has ended so you can continue your culinary experience until the end of your stay.
