Turkish Restaurants in San Sebastian

San Sebastian isn’t exactly known for Turkish cuisine, but you’d be surprised by a handful of spots that bring those flavors to the city. Most of the Turkish restaurants here are small and unassuming, tucked away near Gros or around the city center. They might not have fancy decor, but the food more than makes up for it. Think fresh kebabs, smoky grilled meats, and generous plates of hummus and baba ganoush that taste like they came straight from Istanbul.

One place I keep going back to is just off Calle Zabaleta. It’s nothing flashy, but the lamb doner and the homemade ayran are spot on. Plus, it’s super casual so you can grab a quick bite after a morning stroll on the beach. If you’re there in summer, grab a spot outside and just watch the lively neighborhood life go by. Pro tip: don’t skip the lentil soup; it’s a local favorite and a great way to clear out any lingering chill if you’re visiting in early spring or late fall. And if you want to try some sweet baklava, these places will have you covered without that syrup overdose you sometimes get elsewhere.

What locals know about Turkish food

If you’re wandering around Gros or the Old Town and get a craving for something spicy and different from pintxos, Turkish joints here offer a surprisingly good alternative. I recommend hitting up one of the spots near Zabaleta for authentic lamb kebabs that actually taste like home-cooked meals, not fast food.

And if you’re visiting in cooler months, don’t miss their lentil soup; it’s simple but really comforting, like a warm hug. Also, keep an eye out for small Turkish bakeries where you might score some great pide (Turkish flatbread) if you want to skip the usual bread basket.

Got questions about Turkish food spots in San Sebastian? Here are some answers.

Not really common, but you’ll find a few reliable places mainly around Gros and the city center. They’re usually small, family-run joints with authentic food.

Yes! Turkish mezze like stuffed grape leaves, lentil soup, and fresh salads are often on the menu. Just ask the staff, they’re usually happy to point out vegan or vegetarian options.

I’d say the lamb kebab or the iskender kebab if they have it. Also, try the baba ganoush or falafel with a side of ayran to complete the experience.

Mostly quick meals, but some spots have a cozy, relaxed vibe perfect for chilling with friends over plates of meze and a glass of raki or local wine.

Some do, especially smaller places near universities or busy streets. It’s worth calling ahead to check if you want to eat in your room or on the beach.
