At a glance
Downtown River Hostel is a practical, centrally located base for exploring Donostia. Set on San Martín Kalea, it sits close to the Urumea River, the Parte Vieja, La Concha and several of the city’s main sights. The surroundings combine beaches, pintxos bars, restaurants, cultural landmarks and public transport, with the Maria Cristina Bridge and the Kursaal also within easy reach.
The hostel has shared rooms and a social, traveller-focused atmosphere. Its character suits visitors who enjoy meeting other guests, spending time in communal spaces and using accommodation as a base for days out in San Sebastián. The layout and services are geared towards independent travel, with practical facilities that help keep a stay simple and flexible.
A fully equipped guest kitchen is available for shared use. It allows guests to prepare meals, make use of local market shopping or manage food around their own plans. The kitchen is particularly useful for longer stays and for travellers who prefer self-catering to eating out at every meal.
Each guest has an assigned locker with a lock for personal belongings. Free luggage storage is available around the clock, making it possible to leave bags before check-in or after check-out. Reception operates 24 hours from June to October. Outside that period, arrival arrangements should be checked directly with the hostel.
The location also works well for beach activities. Surfboards and wetsuits are available to hire at the hostel, and Zurriola, the city’s main surfing beach, is within walking distance. La Concha offers a different seaside setting, while the riverfront and central streets provide easy routes towards the old town, restaurants and bars.
Public transport stops are located nearby, and Atotxa railway station is around a ten-minute walk away. The San Sebastián airport can be reached by taxi in about 20 minutes, while direct buses connect Bilbao Airport with the city. Downtown River Hostel is suited to solo travellers, groups of friends and other visitors looking for shared accommodation, a sociable setting and straightforward access to the city.
