Lourdes is a medieval town whose history changed dramatically in 1858 when the Virgin Mary appeared multiple times to Bernadette Soubirous near the River Ouse. Since then, it has become the second most-visited Catholic sanctuary worldwide and the French city with the most hotel beds outside Paris.
You will visit major sites including the Crypt, decorated with votive offerings; the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, known for its stained glass windows recounting the apparitions; the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, with its Romanesque-Byzantine style, gold, and Venetian mosaics; and the underground Saint Pius X Basilica, a Brutalist structure accommodating over 25,000 people.
The tour also includes a visit to the Grotto of Massabielle, where Bernadette’s apparitions occurred and the water became a central element of faith for pilgrims worldwide.
