Description
The tour begins in Saint Jean Pied de Port, the traditional starting point of the St. James Way pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. This medieval town still retains the Basque language across the border.
Next is Bidarray, an off-the-beaten-path village in the countryside. From there, drive along the Pass Du Roland to Espelette, known for its Labourd-style houses decorated with strings of dried red peppers. Sample some typical regional products here.
Ainhoa follows, notable for its church, cemetery with disc-topped monuments, and characteristic white and red Basque houses. The final stop is Sare, located at the base of La Rhune mountain. Sare is a major prehistoric site with well-preserved heritage.
