The upper town is a well-preserved medieval fortress featuring thick stone walls, cobbled streets, flower-adorned wooden balconies, and the former palace of Emperor Charles V. Below is La Marina, the historic fishing district along Calle San Pedro. This area, once a daily fish market with white houses and colorful shutters, now hosts a combination of traditional family-run bars and innovative pintxos kitchens recognized internationally.
